The 2008 Auditor General’s Report makes very sad reading for a developing country like Zambia which is heavily dependant on Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) and Foreign Direct Investments for its economic development. The financial irregularities highlighted are a stark reminder of the rather pitiful efforts that Government is making to deal with graft especially in the public sector. Further, Transparency International Zambia finds the wastefulness and recklessness exhibited by some public officers entrusted with the stewardship of public resources as reported in this Audit report is anything but criminal.

TI Global Corruption Barometer 2009

Transparency International-Zambia (TIZ) wishes to present its views on the just ended 2008 presidential elections based on its monitoring activities conducted during the election campaign period on the actual polling day as well as the election results declaration phase. TI-Z’s position is based on field monitoring of election campaigns, adherence to electoral laws, voting process, counting of votes and dissemination of results. We also analyse the effectiveness of the legal framework vis-à-vis combating electoral malpractices in the electoral process especially enforcement of the laws.
